[Deptheads] GM Badge Requirements

I'm with Shane on this one. Although the idea of 12 scheduled, 8 actual or you don't get the free ride guaranteed next time might be a good compromise. Also, consider, people worrying about getting the actual hours are more likely to pad the event data, which is an added problem we don't need.

Another angle to look at would be a page from RPGs. 12 scheduled hrs, minimum 48 player hrs. You run a large tournament and your ass is likely covered. Isn't the main point to make sure the GMs are entertaining (so to speak) enough people to earn a badge.

Unlike RPGs, which can dictate how long their events run, boardgames is kind ofa crap shoot. I can estimate pretty well most of the time, but every once in a while either a GM puts in a lot of extra time or less time than scheduled. I figure its a wash over the course of an entire con.

Second, not everyone probably feels comfortable doing 101s. If you were thinking of all 4 tasks, then I suggest making it 16 hrs and the other 3 tasks give you double hours (see my across two days suggestion below). But I think 16 hrs might be pushing it.

Twelve hours barely gets a board game GM to the same number of player hours as an RPG GM, assuming a 4 player game, and few board games require the constant participation of the GM. After all, nothing says that if your players don't need you in constant attendance that you can't play a game while GMing a board game, as long as you are accessible.
