We are all here to help you Tanya. I just believe it is hard for people to voice their concerns to people in charge for various reasons. I used you and Eric as an example because I know you have the best of the con in heart and you are approachable even on fairly sensitive issues that you care about. It just happens to be something we really need to get right and finalize. As you mentioned, it's more than a one person job.
To all...the yelling and venting was not directed at a single incident or person. I have noticed an elevation of "free expression" as we all get set in our ways. I'm just trying to stop it from elevating.
I am not a Web proficient person. We need to work as Team Strategicon and get together a list of what we as area coordinators need the site to do, what our attendees need the site to do, and what type of site presentation needs to be conveyed to attract people to the site saying "I need to check this out." It might take a "start from scratch" ground up approach, I don't know. As a Team we need to provide Tonya a complete list of needs so she can compile the info and begin work. She also needs people using different platforms to test links and stuff later, but first things first. Tonya, how do you want us to give you the info on what we need the site to do for us and attendee needs?
Let's work together.
John

</div>To all interested in our website,
First, I don't take offense to John's comment.
1. If I don't know that there is an issue (specific info good), then I don't know to fix things. I have fixed a number of things and implemented several requests from both patrons and staff this year, but they didn't require extensive time to implement without breaking things. And some still do break things because, when I ask for testing I don't get enough people testing enough things.
2. Who is going to volunteer to be on a regular tester list?
Mostly need Windows testers (IE, Chrome, Firefox), and at least one tester for Mac covering Safari (the latest), Chrome and Firefox (in particular the latest OS version as I don't currently have hard drive space to install the latest).
3. Most of the work needed to get the site on par with other sites requires multiple consecutive hours of concentration. We talking about weeks, if not months, worth of work without external distractions. I get one day a week that mostly qualifies. I want to do this work; I can't afford to do this work. In order to get the time to do this work, I need daycare for James to be payed for.
Venting my professional issues. Who's going to help me help the con?
Tanya

As an example, I will start with the problem that I hear everyone whisper about constantly, has been brought up occasionally, and still not fixed. We have the worst website of any convention in the country. It is hard to navigate, looks like it's from the 90's, has too many failing links, supervisors can't update information for their area of jurisdiction are just a few of the problems I have heard about constantly, both before and after the updating we have been doing. In this age, the website is THE face of the convention to the younger people we are trying to get to start coming to the convention and it MUST be attractive to them and make them say "I need to check this out." I was asked during Orccon if I knew how to do a couple of things on the website and I didn't even know you could. I couldn't find the links/dropdowns/etc. to do what I need to do in the future.
This is not an attack on Eric, Tonya, or anyone else. No one doubts their work and dedication to trying to get this problem solved. It is a fact that what has been done hasn't worked and MUST be dealt with now. Go to gameconventioncentral.com and look at some of the other convention websites, see how they look and interact.
