The payout system we currently have works. The tokens are great and work well for the year. It is understood nothing will be perfect nor fool proof. We are a 24 hour con with events running around the clock. We cannot have a 24 hour dealer's room nor 24 hour payouts.And we cannot simply just disallow payout events that end after dealer's room and/or payouts close.
Tourneys that end after 9 pm on friday, after 6:30 pm on sat and sun, and after 2 pm on monday miss being able to spend their tokens in the dealer's room.Those not coming back the next day scramble to barter, swap, or give away their tokens if they are not attending the next con. Others hold onto them for next con since the tokens are good for a year (gateway you are SOL).
Evening and night events miss the payouts and dealer's room. This is at most every con I attend or work. Even comic con, gencon and cons overseas (imagine those not coming back next year to tokyo, toronto, or germany). Some mega tourneys and special events run over. It happens. For the majority of people in the event it doesn't matter...just the 1 or more people getting dealer tokens.
Monday is wrap up, checking out, packing up, and the auction as well as running events. I suggest not having payout events end after 1 pm on monday. It is not just the payouts closing and doing their paperwork but it i also the fact that some vendors do not come back on monday (hotel costs, work monday, whatever) and many others are gone by 2 pm on monday. The selection after 2:30 pm is slim. (same with most game cons on last hours of last days--they want to go home or did) The 1 or 2 events ending after 2 pm do not warrant an exception to system when those events can simply end and hour or so earlier. Otherwise we will have events start after 2 pm on monday and end at con close which is 6 pm.
