Hey Jim,
Thanks for doing this. Here are my notes for the staff meeting.
*LAST CON (Gateway 2017):*
--Everything went fine in the Party Games department
--Headliners were Two Rooms, Ultimate Werewolf, and Cash n Guns Live
--Because of this, I'm really interested in some innovation. If anyone
hears of anybody interested in running something new or different, or just
not in the department that often (Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, even
smaller game stuff like Resistance or Secret Hitler), send them my way.
--Notable attention and positive response to the unofficial game of Red
Dragon Inn Live
--The Saber Legion event went really well
*NEXT CON (Orccon 2018):*
--Saber Legion now plan to do two tournament events for Orccon, on two
consecutive days. I've told Kay to work with Mei for next con's marketing,
cause she's amazing and knows what she's doing.
--I'm working with Nick Chavez on two things: 1) He'd like to use one of my
rooms for a cosplay meet-n-greet thing, which I'm cool with
--2) I'd like to use his Seminar room for a gameshow style game I'd like to
run of Secret Hitler. This is kindof a "get to know your administration"
event. I'd like to host, and have different department heads and members of
the administration as the players, and invite attendees to watch. For those
unfamiliar with how it's played, here's a quick link:
https://youtu.be/mbGXIDYdtas. Nick Chavez expressed interest in podcasting
it. Obviously, I'd need to know if you guys are okay with this--the game
goes to 10, and I'd love to have a full table. This also means leaving
departments in the hands of volunteers for an hour or so.
--depending on time and how well buzz goes for this, I may do another for
the TSL people.
--If political environment is a concern, I can use Secret Sith:
https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/140680/secret-sith
--If they don't already have an HQ, I'm happy to share mine with LARPS.
--Gonna work up a shift schedule for my own volunteers, already started to
lock them down.
*FUTURE CONS: *
--I've asked around, and the criticism I hear most often from people who've
either quit attending con, or are otherwise reluctant to do so, is that it
doesn't really offer events that they can't play at home (the Gay Board
Gaymers, for example, routinely run large scale Werewolf games among their
own homes in Burbank, and as a result, paying for the chance to do so at
con isn't really a draw for them). In an effort to combat this, I
personally plan on looking at more specialized or bigger events--megagames,
"Live" games (in the same vein as live chess; a friend and I are knocking
out a design for a Live version of Noir), encouraging more stuff like AJ
Harris' gameshows, etc. Stuff that's only available at con. I know I've
talked about this before, but Aramis: Starship Bridge Simulator would be
perfect for this.
Any questions, send them to me by email, at least until Monday.
(Jim, you can call, but I'll be flying tomorrow and on Monday, and will
probably be unreachable for parts of Saturday).
Thanks!
Will
