Hi All,

With all the talk of adding pages, that I rarely have an issue with, we really should discuss where to list most of these pages in the menu. I’m putting a call out for ideas on how to improve/reorg the menu and opinions of what I’m listing below. 

8 all access main menu items is about the limit right now. Ninth would be Account/Admin. I’ll consider 10 only for a separate Account and Admin menu to be discussed later.

Shopping, and Admin are pretty set as a main menus. And I’d like to hold off on discussing cleaning up the Admin menu for later session. I’d like to focus on what the general user and logged in general user gets to see.

* Do we need the “Homepage” menu item? If so, I’m shrinking it to “Home”.

* I think we need a separate item under Shopping for Strategicon Merchandise. This will make the t-shirt art a lot easier to find. Something I keep hearing about, but never really heard a solution. Only single con or evergreen items need to be purchasable through our online registration page.

* I’m thinking of changing Admin back to Account and adding the account links found under the username (they can stay their too, at least for now. Then the Admin items for those admins would be added to the bottom of the account menu. Part of making things like badges easier to find. It will make it a long menu for Admins, but we will discuss the Admin menu in general later.

* For Virtual Only Cons, Hotel and Parking menus will go away. Replaced by at least one virtual only menu. For things like the guides for all things virtual.


I also have two radical ideas that Eric A. may not like, but I think opinions are still good.

1. Change Registration Menu, submenus Hotel Registration, Convention Registration, Event Pre-Registration
* Hotel Registration would be the Hotel link, removing it from the top menu
* Convention Registration would be the Info page with a button at the top of the page to get to the current Convention Registration page for those who don’t need the info.
* Event Pre-Registration, moved from the Events menu. Would the name be better as Event Early Registration. This can be changed to Event Sign-ups, for a pure virtual con.
* Code of Conduct can stay.

2. Will only be considered if #1 doesn’t fly. I think Parking could go under Hotel.

Either idea frees up a main menu, in particular a menu that has no use during a virtual con. This could be a way to move Departments to the main menu. Just remember, we need more content and one or more images, preferably photos for each department to have a solid presence. I’m willing to edit and format, but I don’t know enough about most departments to write stuff.
