Orccon 2017 <http://strategicon.net/> is just around the riverbend, and we couldn’t be more excited. The deadline to submit games and events for Orccon is today, January 27. If you want to run a game at the convention this Presidents’ Day weekend, February 17-20 at the Los Angeles Hilton Airport Hotel, please submit your event by tonight. Pre-registration for individual events opens the following day.

Hotel rooms at the convention rate are sold out. Parking rates at the Hilton: $9 general and $20 valet per day for convention attendees.

Escape THIS

You and five other crew members have one hour to figure out what went wrong in the cargo hold during a routine hyperspace jump in Crisis Aboard Starship Seshet, an escape room-style LARP set in the world of Christian Brown’s Starship Valkrie. Enjoy cooperative puzzle solving with light role-playing and minimalist rules (do what you do, WYSIWYG, no stats). The game will run all weekend, every other hour, starting Friday at 6 p.m. No experience necessary. For more information, jump to waveonelarp.com <http://waveonelarp.com/>. Fact: Your next favorite miniatures game will probably be at Orccon. Try the upcoming RuneWars minis game, The Walking Dead: All Out War from Mantic, or join a demo of Warlord’s Beyond the Gates of Antares, or Warhammer Quest: The Silver Tower or the new Blood Bowl from Games Workshop. Tournaments will include Team Yankee, Star Wars: Armada and X-Wing as well as the return of Malifaux and Warhammer 40K. Between games, try your hand at miniature painting at our Paint and Take and check out the Painting Contest!

Something for Everybody

Party games offer big fun for everyone [at the same time, in some cases]. Local designer Manny Vega will return with his all-ages Sparkle*Kitty. We’ll have multiple games and variants of Werewolf (including one in ASL!), as well as the Strategicon debut of WitchHunt, which gives “dead” players a chance to influence the game’s outcome. Experience Red Dragon Inn: Live, Two Rooms and a Boom, Ninja, Ca$h 'n' Gun$ Live and many, many more.

Meanwhile, the Video Gaming Room will host Overwatch, Hearthstone (Standard and Wild), Rocket League (Standard and Rumble) and Super Smash Bros. tournaments. Stop by the Marina room on the second floor anytime during the show.

Know Purpose. Find Truth. Seek Adventure.

Arizona author, teacher and game designer Todd VanHooser will beta test something completely different this Orccon: his new post-apocalyptic Laughing Moon fantasy RPG Wheelhouse, set thousands of years after the destruction of Mythren. All experience levels are welcome and creativity is encouraged. How can you go wrong with a game that utilizes a “Complications Deck”?

The magnificent Strategicon Game Library continues to grow, and there’s no better place to shop than our Dealer Room. Gaming 101 sessions provide an opportunity to learn new games; our Family Area features games especially for our younger attendees. Bring your friends! Bring your family!
