Gamex 2017 <http://www.strategicon.net/>, the finest gaming convention held in Los Angeles over Memorial Day weekend, kicks off next Friday! We hope you’re excited, but don’t forget to pre-register; Monday, May 22 will be your last chance.

LARP-curious?

If you only play one game on Friday, make it Interstellar Diplomacy at 10:00 p.m. In this scenario, combining LARP with tabletop strategy, the assembled alien races of the Galactic Union have reached a political crisis and you have one Earth hour to negotiate a peace treaty before the alien armadas open fire, annihilating your little backwoods planet.

New to live action role-playing or want to learn more? In a special session Saturday at 2:00 p.m., Mike Leader (Steam Differential) will provide background information about LARPing as well as a pre-game beginners’ tutorial for Vampire the Masquerade (By Night Studios edition) later that night.

Are You Qualified?

We are proud to be hosting national qualifiers for both Agricola and Settlers of Catan at Gamex. There is an additional $10 fee for each event.

For the Settlers of Catan 2017 National Qualifier, the top 8 players from each qualifying round on Saturday will compete in the Finals on Sunday. The final winner will be sent to the Catan United States Championship (CUSC) at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio.

Sunday, May 28th at 1:00 p.m., Board Games will host a qualifying event for the Agricola US National Championship held at Gen Con in Indianapolis.

Friendly reminder from Board Games: if you register for a game, please bring a copy of the game to be played. Otherwise, your participation cannot be assured. Gaming 101 sessions exempt.

Tobie Abad, jim pinto and Ben Woerner!

Manila-based Tobie Abad designed A Single Moment and is the brains behind the TAGSessions line. jim pinto of Post World Games, designer of Praxis, Murder Hobo and Protocol, will also join us for many fantastically immersive storytelling games. Designer Ben Woerner will be running his adventure 7th Sea: Seahorse Rescue! all weekend long, but don’t take our word for it-- buckle your swashes and experience the intrigue firsthand!

PG-13 Fun

We’re very excited to host a screening of the new film Tournament, Saturday at 4:00 p.m., right after the Mint on Card improv group rocks our collective socks off, but that’s only the tip of the game-berg!
