[Strategicon-announce] Gateway returns this Labor Day weekend!

Strategicon hosts its third and final game convention of 2023 at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport the coming Labor Day weekend, Friday September 1 through Monday September 4.

Would you like to earn a free badge to Gateway 2023? Have we got a deal for you! Strategicon is looking for GMs to run games, and here is the best part, you get to pick the games! If you'd like to run a game please sign up to do so at www.strategicon.net/?run_event. We can only run the games we have volunteers to run! The submission deadline for events is Friday August 11.

In addition to more games, we need volunteers for all sorts of things. Run games, help with Board Game HQ, work the registration desk, whatever — we need people to make a live convention happen. Here is some of what you can look forward to at Gateway 2023!

We have some very special guests coming out for this show. Game Designer extraordinaire Eric M. Lang, veteran game, comic, and commercial artist Ken Mayer Jr., Gallant Knight Games' founder Alan Bahr, and Paizo's Alex Speidel all are all joining us. Meet the people that make these games happen!

In board games our Power Grid World tour wraps up it 2023 season with multiple sessions, visiting China, Korea, and North America amongst others. On Monday we have a massive tournament of Azul! We already have well over 100 board game events and tournaments on the schedule, with more being added.

Our video game Room is bringing fighting games back, from traditional Smash Bros to classic Injustice 2, to the brand-new Street Fighter 6. And as a bonus to old-school arcade gamers, we're bringing some hot pinball action to the convention, with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinet for both tournaments and free play for the entire weekend.

Speaking of old school, we have tons of old school games. Dungeons & Dragons, Battletech, Car Wars, Warhammer, HeroQuest, Acquire, and several other titles from the previous century are all happening this show. Game like it's 1989! If that's not your cup of tea we have more recent titles too.

Continuing our journey into the past, but this time back to the dark days of ... 2020 ... we're revisiting our Discord server! If you'd like to keep in contact with us in an easy to find place, come check it out over at discord.gg/SZDFsERbEw or strategicon.net/discord .

Finally, we're bringing back a surprise hit from ... 2022? Karaoke! Are you ready to channel your inner bard? It's time for the triumphant return of the Karaoke contest, hosted by Lemar the ConGuy! Friday and Saturday, 8 pm-9 pm, with free singing afterward until midnight.

For those that like to shop we have over 40 vendors in our dealer room. Many old favorites along with some fresh faces. A wide variety of games and game-related paraphernalia for every type of gamer. We also have the Strategicon Flea Market and the Strategicon Game Auction. Here you can find that missing gem for your collection or possibly clear your closet of your surplus games.

Stay with us at the LAX Hilton! We still have some rooms available for every night of the show. Reservations must be made by Thursday August 17 to get the convention rate. We will probably sell out soon, so book now.

No COVID-19 message this time! However, we have had a lot of questions about the Los Angeles area hotel workers strike. The Hilton Los Angeles Airport is not affected as the union that's currently on strike does not represent the workers at this hotel.
