Something simple and functional is all I am looking for.  The bases we have right now actually work fine, but they are very Home Depot DIY.  I would even be okay if someone took the bases we have, which I am sure are in storage now, and painted or covered them so they don't look like a piece of pipe screwed into a piece of wood (which is exactly what they are).
Ballast is not a big issue.  If you look at the bases we have now, they are literally a 3" square pieces of wood.  There was really no need for ballast in the nice bases that were made.  I don't know why the pennies were ever added.  In fact, I think they might have hurt more than helped, by giving the bases enough heft to break each other when being stored.

As far as base design goes, I think Kens machine would leave us in the same pickle of needing ballast. Using bases like mine would work and I was considering talking to one of our vendors to laser up something to fit on top that says Strategicon and any other info we need. They would look nice and be somewhat resilient.

What about those 3-D art things, Something-Maker, Ken at Payouts was displaying stuff last year. We're not not necessarily looking for the quality you produced, but the wood bases are the complete opposite. I think Shane would be good with a compromise.
Main requirements, looks decent, doesn't break easily, stays standing.Am I wrong?

There are a lot of places that do rapid prototyping, none of them will be in our budget. The machine I made those on cost 1 million. My company decided that was better than paying a parts house (industry slang for a place that does that kind of work).
